Naming of Parts Response This poem took me a while to understand and I had to read it a couple times. I slowly started to see that it is talking about two different sexualities, one as a man and one as a woman. The poem illustrates that men and women see things differently. One way that Reed shows this and puts it into language is what he calls easing the spring. “The purpose of this is to open the breech, as you see. We can slide it rapidly backwards and forwards: we call this Easing the spring. And rapidly backwards and forwards the early bees are assaulting and fumbling the flowers: They call it easing the Spring” (Reed 601). So this tells us that the man sees easing the spring as sliding the bolt back on a gun going backwards and forwards, and the woman see easing the spring as the first bees coming out of winter starting to get to the flowers and make them pollinate. They also go backwards and forwards from their home to the flower as they carry honey. We should come away from this remembering that men and woman sometimes have totally different meanings to things and that’s just how we are. I think Reed makes good points and that we will always have different meanings for things as man and woman. The whole time throughout the play Lago was setting Othello up by becoming friends with him and trying to gain his trust. Lago was just trying to figure Othello out. He did so because they were interested in the same girl. Othello trusted Lago and thought that they were good friends, but in the end we see that it was fake and that Lago would just stab Othello in the back. I can see how it
