The orbits of Mercury and Pluto are very elongated whereas the orbits of the other planets are almost circular (Nelson, 2005). There is a point along each orbit, called the perigee, where the planet is closest to the center of the Sun, and a point, called the apogee, at which each planet is the furthest from the center of the Sun (Lambert, 2010). Recall that the seasons are the result of a planet’s tilt, not its proximity to the Sun. As such, when the Earth is closest to the Sun at the perigee, the Northern hemisphere is experiencing summer and the Southern hemisphere is experiencing winter. But the proximity of the Earth to the Sun does not influence the seasons.

I did the scientific experiment where I look through the paper towel cylinder and gathered the size of the moon. The moon’s circumference came out to be the same again at 6.83 centimeters. I repeated the same step of measuring the moon with my ruler which provided its circumference. There was a small difference but, this was suspected due to the reality of human error. The circumference came out to be 7.66 which was too extremely off of my previous findings.
But can it be accomplished? The Mayans have made numerous predictions based on the stars and alignment of the sun in relation to the rest of the skies. But their most controversial prediction strikes a huge argument among scientists. Is their prediction that the end of the world on December 21st, 2012 true?
