We as citizens have the right to live life in freedom without undue harm and to pursue our dreams and goals. Jefferson believes the government needs to respect our opinion by not putting it aside and to just listen to the citizens. The citizens have the right to set up a new government so the citizens have a better political life. To achieve the happiness we desire, the need for possession would be required. Jefferson says, “We hold these truths to be self-evidence, that all men are created equal, that they are endowed by their Creator with certain inalienable Rights that among these are Life, Liberty, and the pursuit of Happiness” (Jefferson, 80).
This excellent service can be done by those that care about our world and the people that inhabit it. Service can be serving others in some helpful way. The main idea of service is that the individual isn’t the most important and other people could use help and good advice. Being a good leader means that the leader knows how to serve the people he is working for. Leadership is another trait that can’t be easily developed, but only with thorough diligence and dedication.
He took action to help improve equality amongst the nation. The people of the nation should do as Lincoln did. If you want change to come about to better living conditions then you have to take action. Even though everybody didn’t agree with what Lincoln was trying to do, he still did what he could to protect the people’s human rights and property rights. Throughout Lincoln’s approach to bring about equality, he did what he thought was right and he never changed what he believed based on what everyone else thought.
If citizens are to be entrusted with such cherished personal freedoms as guaranteed in the constitution, then they must have the responsibility to obey the law and to be productive, lest their freedoms be taken away. Conversely, if American citizens didn’t respect the law and abused their personal freedoms, then the government would be prompted to take their freedoms away. However unlikely that may be, the values that America is founded on are that men are inherently good and can be trusted to take care of themselves and respect the rights of others. One founding father who best embodies the civic value of responsibility is George Washington. As America’s hero from the Revolutionary War and first president, Washington was given many responsibilities for the new nation.
Delbanco’s interpretation that Thoreau creates world that we both need and fear is basically saying that Thoreau creates the perfect world that we would need to best survive and would strive the best in; however this world is something that we as people are not used to and have never experienced so we would be skeptical and scared when it is presented to us. I definitely agree with Delbanco’s statement about Thoreau’s world. Although it would be nice to love in a world where things were based on a man’s conscience rather than government, and the people played a bigger part in how things were ran; it would be something nobody is used to therefore no one would really know what they were doing and who is to say we can trust everyone’s conscience because there are some people in the world with bad consciences. While Socrates arguments may be sound in his opinion, I'm not sure if I agree with them. Just because of the good laws of the state benefited Socrates and helped him in his upbringing, it doesn't mean that he has to remain completely loyal to them for his entire life. His main point about never returning an unjust act with another makes sense to a degree, but only if you agree with his view that the soul is the only thing that matters and not the body. This is not an effective way to get the best result from a team, but it has some advantages in situations where there is pressure to get the task done, like in the armed forces. This leadership style may use threats or intimidation to make sure that subordinates do what the leader requires. This could bring down subordinates by ignoring their knowledge and input. The leader monitors the work and each individual's performance; which is good to make sure that everyone is working. People are motivated by being rewarded; this brings encouragement helping the person who has done well do a better job and help them achieve more in the job.
These factors that many think that could be adversarial are race, gender, sexual orientation, and pedigree. Those people believe that all those components will be a problem to some who think that just working hard is enough to become successful. Although many people such as Horatio Alger, the author of “Ragged Dick”, have different opinions on how an individual can accomplish something in life, everyone achieves success differently. For most citizens of America, they believe that they must work hard to achieve what they want in life. Some do not think that any other factors such as race or social economic status can affect the outcome of an individual’s life.
The Declaration of Independence has many ideals stated in it. The United States is a democratic republic and a model for many countries but the United States has not lived up to its ideals in the Declaration of Independence. In the Declaration of Independence it states that “all men are created equal, that they are endowed by their Creator with certain unalienable Rights that among these are Life, Liberty, and the pursuit of Happiness,” meaning that it doesn’t matter what your race is or what you look like, your rights can’t be taken away. “The rich and the poor are not so far removed from each other,” meaning that either if you are rich or poor, you aren’t going to be treated any different just because of how much money you have or don’t have. In the Declaration of Independence, it states that, “all men are created equal,” which means that it doesn’t matter what race you are, you are not to be treated any different than anyone else.
As Thomas Jefferson stated in the “Declaration of Independence”, all men are created equal. I absolutely agree in relation to equality of human beings but at the same time equal people behave so different towards a common issue. In certain circumstances when you must risk your life for saving others, a real hero
