Summary-Response to The Sandra Bullock Trade The Sandra Bullock Trade, by David Brooks, discusses two things that happened to her in one month. She found out that her husband was cheating on her and she won an Academy Award. With this, Brooks goes on using Sandra Bullock’s personal life to persuade readers that marital happiness or interpersonal relationships is more important than an accomplishment in a profession. Although it is true that interpersonal relationships are vital in a person’s life, I believe it is not as important as health and the relationship of a person within their family. When someone has committed to spend their life with another person, they have two people to care for, themselves and their partner. Even though I believe marriage is a beautiful experience, it can make one forget about themselves and their life aside from their wife or husband. I know firsthand, that this can have drastic consequences. A few years ago my dad was diagnosed with diabetes and instead of treating it as recommended; he ignored the issue until it significantly affected his family’s life and himself. Because my dad was too busy raising and caring for his own family, he did not give himself enough attention and as an effect to his diabetes, he became extremely violent, which almost caused my parents to divorce. This consequence would not have only affected my father but his entire family as well. It is from this experience that I learn to better self-assure my health and well-being. This, however, does not mean I do not plan to marry in the future, but from my experience I learn that I should also worry about myself. Judging from my past, I’ve decided that before I marry I will assure well standing health in myself so I can manage to have a less stressful marriage, making it overall, more successful. Being happy can make all the difference in a person’s health.
