Libraries are being forced to cut back or close because people are doing research online and reading books on Kindles and Nooks. People are starting to believe that smart phones are a necessity because of the various services that they supply.
to the new generation’s use of internet and lack of reading classic books, Amy Goldwasser defends the teenage reputation in her article “What’s the Matter with Kids Today?” Goldwasser speaks of how the internet has expanded kids’ minds when it comes to school and themselves, also how this generation has more access than older generations due to the internet. Goldwasser claims that teenagers spending time online is overall good for them because they do read and write. The content, however, is not strong enough for educational purposes. A blog post about how to curl hair or how to pass the perfect spiral is not giving them any educational value. Whereas reading the local newspaper or reading a classic novel like “The Great Gatsby” by F Scott Fitzgerald would provide a more Nowadays kids don’t read don’twritedont care about anything .
This article also claims that technology is a huge distraction in our lives in the sense that instead of traditional reading we now tend to skim read and even skip right to another article without ever returning to the original one. Traditional media has to live up to the expectation their audiences have of everything being a "shortcut". We are becoming too use to being able to access information faster and more conveniently. According to this article, technology is becoming more important than the mind of the human being. Google is used as an example of how we have begun a new form or way of reading and thinking as we hyperlink or way through the web instead of going to a library to read periodicals.
Block Scheduling Educators are constantly looking for new ways to improve the American educational system. Teachers are increasingly frustrated that the traditional and even the modern teaching strategies are not working. There seems to be many initiatives to develop new instruments to expand students' knowledge base. Some educators are considering the practicality of this idea through what is called block scheduling. There are many famous people including Bauerlein himself were having an argument with another group of people on whether digital culture is an advantage or not. He backs up his opinion by saying “Together they form an imposing countervailing force, an alliance to slow the headlong rush to technologies learning, reading, writing, and intellectual life.” Bauerlein believes digital culture had cut of young adults’ understanding on literature and history because at this time, young adults would prefer to find answers on the Internet; therefore, reading also becomes a problem. Even though teenagers are willing to adapt the new learning style is an advantage for them; however, they should not abandon the old way of studying. Bauerlein said “If it doesn't happen in high school, in college and in home at this time, it probably never will.” Young adults should be aware of how to study when there aren’t any digital culture provided, on the other
It’s been hard for Native American people as a whole to fight for legislation because we do experience what is referred to as “the digital divide” (“Native Americans”). Unlike so many cultures that are up on technology and innovation and new ways to communicate, we lack in that respect for the most part – hence this handwritten letter, haha. In fact, those “growing” companies are not truly “growing” because that even if they are still making profit, they are losing consumers and market at the same time. Especially those companies who owns irreplaceable resource and products for now, they should have a clear cognition that no product is indispensable forever. In addition, companies always narrow themselves to a limited area so that it is hard to have extraordinary improvement in their products. In order to keep their competitiveness in this rapidly developing age, asking for trouble is necessary so that companies will be pushed to develop products to reach higher level of consumer satisfaction. It is important to focus on customers and customers’ needs instead of just persuading customers to make the exchange.
Although girls are subject to the same things, boys are seemingly more stubborn and impressed with the electronic entertainment around them. In my opinion, I feel girls are more consumed by social issues and looking pretty. If we want to see the number of dropouts decrease and higher test scores, we have to change the pace of the classroom. We have to embrace technology as a friend and a learning aide in the next couple of decades. Boys have become accustom to an extreme world around them and if we don’t accommodate for that we may see a continual decline in interest among boys.
The use of technology is only one of contributing factors associated with this problem in children, teenagers, and even adults. Illiteracy in America is growing at an alarming rate. The other primary contributing factor to this grave issue is the state of public education and the structure of the curriculum in many school districts in America. I am very concerned about America’s future. It is so much easier to use abbreviations when you are texting or sending Email to friends.
