What is the health benefits associated with resistive training? Resistive training is a program of exercise that can be performed using ones own body weight, such as press-ups, sit-ups, and dips. Resistive tubing, Therabands, free-weights, medicine balls, and machines can also be used. Using this type of training has been shown to increase your strength, speed, and stamina. Resistive training can not only transform your physical appearance but it can also improve your sport performance and health. Appropriately prescribed and correctly executed resistance training programs may have notable health benefits. Regular participation in resistive training activities has been shown to positively influence bone mineral density. This potential benefit may be especially important for young women who are at increased risk of developing osteoporosis. It has also been shown to decrease the incidence of some acute and overuse sports related injuries in some athletes. This is made possible by enhancing musculoskeletal strength and developing muscle balance around the joints. Although aerobic exercise is usually prescribed for decreasing body fat. A few studies have reported a decrease in fat with resistance training, which can also help with weight control and weight maintenance.
