What do you think about the topic being presented? What type of audience are the creators of the text appealing to (resistant, neutral, or sympathetic), and how can you tell? What do the creators want you to think after you view or read the object? Don't just stop at the obvious. For example, an advertisement will want to sell you a product. Dig deeper into the persuasion techniques that are being used. http://adland.tv/commercials/audi-prom-worth-it-big-game-commercial I found the overall topic of the commercial to be humorous in nature. It has a good twist in the feeling of the ad, going from being rather gloomy to very funny. The majority of the target audience would be sympathetic. The lead character is a skinny teenage boy and dateless for his prom, a fact his kid sister is only too eager to point out. This is a position many adults experienced as teenagers or could at least imagine how it would feel. His father allowing him to drive his Audi changes the premise of the whole situation for the teen, who is suddenly filled with confidence. The creators’ likely intention was to make the viewer feel as though the underdog got the win. When the scrawny boy struts up to the prom queen and kisses her without hesitation, he is fulfilling a fantasy many people have had about breaking free from their labeled place in society, and taking what they want. In this case, stealing a kiss from the assumed most popular girl in school is something most teenage boys would be more than willing to suffer a black eye for. Adding in an air of romance, and a guarantee that in the viewer mind that the teenage boy was victorious, the creator flashes back for a moment to the prom queen. She opens her eyes looking slightly stunned but with a coy smile is starting to spread across her face when the scene returns to the boy celebrating, speeding off in the Audi. The commercial
