It is absolutely full of a variety of hotels, unique shops, and mainstream stores as well as a plethora of banks. Government Street perhaps contains the most expensive real estate in the downtown area of Victoria, and draws in the wealthier portion of clientele. Chinatown is full of history and excitement, around each twist and turn there is culture, demonstrated through paintings, art, the diversity of stores, and vitality of the street. This unique place is a huge tourist attraction and fittingly has an ample number of Chinese restaurants. Also found there are many small, unique, and cultural shops, in historical buildings, that when combined with the cultural aspect of Chinatown make this place a must see for all.
There was a genuine desire to build places of worship and prayer and to build a cathedral as a way to pay homage to God. However, the Catholic Church also planned the cathedral as a place which would show ecclesiastical power to any who would see it. "The buildings were for the glory of God, but they also expressed Episcopal prestige and affirmed the bishop's power in the face of his secular rivals." (Duby) Since there
Followers of the Christian faith believe that Jesus is the Messiah, so it's doctrine is based on the life and teachings of Jesus. These scriptures are referred to as the New Testament- which explains the concepts of faith, hope and love. The Islamic religion considers Abraham as the founder of monotheism, and recognizes Moses, Jesus and many others as prophets. Islam also has it's own set of laws which is known as the Five Pillars of Faith. It consists of 5 obligations a person has to do in order to convert into a Muslim, declaring your faith and devotion.
The Massachusetts Declaration of Rights demonstrates how the idea of religious toleration was well-suited with the provisional backing of churches in New England. The declaration is divided into three acts. The first article puts forth that all men are free and equal and have certain undeniable rights. The second article states that those men have not only the right, but a duty, to worship the “Supreme Being.” It goes further to say that no one shall have those rights restricted due to the manner in which they worship. The third act gives power to the people to have their legislature appropriate provisions for public houses of worship and to support public religious teachers.
Whale Rider 1. After watching the movie "Whale Rider" and observing Pai’s primal religion, it has opened my mind and depicted a sharper picture for how these types of religions function and survive. I could see how everyones and everything revolved around Paikea and how he was extremely sacred. Although they believe in myth and no real God, they still have a belief in a higher power which has revealed to me that they are similar to us in that very important aspect. Another thing that helped me understand their religion were their chants and songs; they're like our prayers.
J.J.Catchings Mr. Tucker 10-28-10 5th Comparing & Contrasting: Christianity & Islam There are a lot of similarities between the two religions Christianity and Islam. Religions are beliefs, service, and worship in a god or gods. Religious views can affect your way of life, personality, and thought process. But, the trinity is not three separate gods rather it is three forms of the same god. Christians follow the life and teachings of Jesus and believe that he is the son of God and the Messiah that the Hebrew Bible said would come. They believe that God sent his son as a sacrifice to save humanity from sin and as a result they could be offered a place in heaven. Customs and traditions among Christians vary depending on which denomination they belong to. However, there are some fundamental practices that all Christians participate in.
As a Christian we have accepted that the Bible contains the true Word of God written by apostles who received divine inspiration to guide the recorded works. We have accepted that the Bible contains only those works that have passed the test of canonicity. The test of canonicity along with the acceptance of the Bible being the one true Word of God provides the authority that we accept as Christians. “The Canon is the standard by which the sixty six books in the bible and their content were determined and the basis upon which they were included in Scripture.” (Towns, 2008, pg. 29) The testing of canonicity involves four basic principles.
As you can see from this source, Agricola made the roman baths a very luxurious place to visit, he almost spoiled the people, gaining their support. Within the towns were many key buildings which insinuate what people did during their daily lives. In the centre of every town was the Forum which was a large square area where markets and meetings were held. At one end of the forum was the basilica where the Gods where worshipped. The temples where so close to the forum and almost right in the centre of the town which I think enforces the fact that religion was so important during roman Britain.
An example of this would be that the Chinese and the Arabs, who had compasses, were able to cross large expanses of open water without the fear of getting lost or injured. Another change in commerce from 650 CE to 1750 CE, was the amount of trade and commerce being executed. As powerful city states began to flourish because of trade and commerce, more economic resources were made available to different regions and kingdoms.
