Without his documentation, perhaps today we would not have a good interpretation of the leadership, religious beliefs, or trading policies of China during the 42 years of rule of the Khan. It is worth mentioning during Polo’s travel and stay, he developed a trusting relationship with the Emperor Kublai Khan therefore he is able to give us a more insightful and accurate record of his travels and the culture of others. Marco travels to many other cities and towns of China and is able to experience the great beauty and many riches the county has. Marco also mentions how the people throughout the country are loyal and faithful to the Khan. He is able to observe the many different customs of the people from each town and he mentions the variety of living conditions and trading goods. One of the cities Marco is fascinated by is also one where merchants travel to for trade. This is the city of Kin-sai, it is the capitol of Manji. The city is well guarded because in this city there are many riches and trade. The city is surrounded by rivers and makes trade for others more accessible and many travel here. There are different stations available for merchants to shop through and the roads are made with stone and brick. The city of Kin-sai provides an assortment of goods, from art, baths, and clothes to food, wine and spices. Within this, very innovative and metropolitan like city one can find apartments, houses, bridges and trade locations. He dined with the Christians on some occasions and allowed for them to practice their religion; the city of Kin-sai also had a church for the Christian people. He believed that regardless of what religion the people chose to practice and believed in, he still commanded them all. The people throughout his empire were all believers of his political rule. His reasoning for being so accepting and respectful of the variety of religions was because he felt that out of those religions at one time lived great prophets. He expected for his nobles to embrace and be respectful of these religions as well. There are four particular religions he makes mention of and names the prophet which arose from that belief. Kublai said that Christ was the prophet for Christians, Mohamed for the Saracens, and Moses for the Jews and Sogomonbar Khan for the idolaters.
