The American Institute of Certified Public Accountants (AICPA) is a professional organization responsible for developing professional accounting ethical values. The ethics of a business is currently a major issue due to sensational corporate scandals that had taken place in many countries causing extensive damages to the economy and society. These corporate scandals question the morality of businessmen in general and accountants in particular. It is argued that the accountants have been the main contributors to the decline in ethical standards of a business (Senaratne, 2015). The definition of ethics is shaped by personal, societal and professional values, all of which are difficult to specify. Integrity is one of the ethical point discussed by AICPA. According to the dictionary, integrity is the quality of being honest and having strong moral principles; moral uprightness and more the state of being whole and undivided. However, for many scandals in the US and around the world integrity is unfortunately the cause. From my experience of being an accountant in an accounting firm in my country, the Ivory Coast, which is regrettably one of the corrupted country in the world, I have seen and experienced some of these issues. For example, the CPA with whom I was working went through difficult time because wanted to keep his integrity of doing the right thing and be trustworthy to the public. Some companies have fired him as a CPA because he refused to provide information from other companies and for not providing an unqualified report. Another example is the scandal of Nutrition Company Herbalife (HLF) and footwear maker Skechers in which KPMG has resigned as the companies' auditor due to an insider-trading scandal at the Big Four accounting firm.
