Repaying a Kindness I sat beside him, holding his hand and watched him quietly, occasionally whispering assurances. He was still the old man with wrinkles on his forehead, with the pair of gentle but firm eyes. It was just that strand of white hair starting to be noticeable on his head. I never knew life could be so fragile. If this incident never happened, I would have thought that life went on forever. Never did I know that I had such strong emotions towards him, because he was just, a stranger. My life started to change when I was eleven. Being a rebellious ill brat, I did the sort of things that would embarrass my parents. I admit I was immature back then, but what can you expect from an eleven-year-old child? I skipped school during curriculum, was impolite to teachers and even bullied students. However, one of the most memorable experiences I had was during one of the days where I skipped school and went shopping in a neighborhood near my school. I saw the latest model of Sony MP3 player displayed on a counter which was on sale, however it was still too expensive for someone like me who was still schooling. My thoughts started running in all directions and I started to think of ways to steal the MP3 player. Beads of sweat started trickling down my forehead, although, I had done many rebellious acts. Stealing was considered a crime and keeping this thought in mind, I hesitated. However, temptation won over honesty as I made a decision that I would steal the MP3 player I looked at my surroundings and made sure that the shop owner was kept busy to even notice my existence. I slowly picked up the MP3 player and slipped it into my school bag. My heart leapt violently, I knew I couldn’t turn back now. I walked out of the shop as quietly as I could.
