Religious Health Care Deanene Taylor Professor Sherry Grover HSA 300 February 24, 2014 Introduction This paper will begin by identifying and discussing the problems in Religious Health Care. The paper will discuss an analysis on five most important elements of the governing board’s agenda for areas of improvements in core functions. It will also identify the key performance metrics which could be used by Religious Health Care in order to improve their overall performance. Five Important Elements for Areas of Improvement in Core Functions Five important elements which should be taken into consideration by the governing board’s agenda for areas of improvement are recommendation of resident care and quality of life, human resources, finance, physical environment and atmosphere, and leadership and management. Resident Care and Quality of Life Ensuring quality of clinical care is the fourth essential function of the governing board. The board is responsible for exercising the duty of care on behalf of the patients and the community. In addition to legal requirements, the Joint Commission has specified many of the structures by which the board and the hospital medical staff discharge this duty (Griffith, 2011). The governing board can assure resident care and quality of life by: • Ensuring that nursing services are planned, implemented and evaluated to maximize resident quality of life and quality of care. • Ensuring that social service programs are planned, implemented, and evaluated to meet resident psychological and social needs and preferences to maximize resident quality of life and quality of care. • Ensuring that the food service program is planned, implemented and evaluated to meet the nutritional needs of residents to maximize resident quality of lifer and quality of care. • Ensuring that medical services are planned, implemented, and
