Your response to each question should be at least 150 words in length. 1. How do you define the concept of attention? Attention can be understood to mean the mechanism for continued cognitive processing. Attention attends further processing. Attention can be both limited and selective. Some people are easily distracted or the interest is just not there to perform the required task. Attention can be distributed to a single task or to multiple tasks at the same time. When a person practices a specific task for a long time the amount of attention that is needed to perform that task is less. This is called allocation of attention. When a person is vigilant they are able to maintain attention. When a person sets small and reachable goals it is easier to be vigilant about completing a task. If a person is not vigilant and lacks motivation, desire or interest it can be very difficult to maintain the amount of attention to complete the task. It is important to train yourself to pay attention in a variety of situations. Kids are now forced to multitask at school so they can complete all of the required assignments. 2.Can attention be consciously allocated to tasks? Why or why not? Yes attention can be consciously allocated to tasks. A person is able to consciously make the choice to allocate to a specific item. A person has to set their mind on completing a specific goal. A person then has to be vigilant about applying the proper attention to complete the task at hand. It is possible for a person to be allocated a variety of task at the same time.
