Reflective Report Temitayo Zibiri Student No: 1306482 Introduction: This is a reflective report on all I learnt throughout the semester on International Management, this report pays close attention to the Group assignment where we used Tesco as a case study, the adequacy of the materials provided for the course, my part in the group assignment and an overview of what I learnt in the course of this Module. Reflections on the case analysed by the Group. The case study we analysed was on Tesco internalization strategies using different models and Market drivers to analyse their performance in all the markets they have operated in. I found the whole experience very educative and rewarding, looking at how a small retail store in the U.K has grown to become a global retail business. The models we used in analysing the case proved to be helpful in other courses and gave me an even better understanding when I came across them, especially the PESTLE analysis in my marketing class. Success in one market and failure in another goes to show that there is no company that is too big to fail and the overwhelming need for adequate background information before entering new markets. Their exit from Taiwan shows that a company cannot afford to go Global just for the sake of going Global, it has to have a good impact on the bottom line and where this is not happening rather than commit more capital without any hope of return on same, it is better to exit and move on. The main reasons I see that Tesco decided to go global is to maintain their competitive advantage and stay ahead in the retail business. I think after this assignment, I can speak intelligently on any occasion about the retail business market and how business is done, if I were to attend an interview I don’t think I will do badly.
