Volleyball Learning Experience

The purpose of this reflective essay is to culminate the skills in my learning experiences. To discuss my performance in weeks 2, 4, 6 and 7 of the volleyball unit and the changes that occurs throughout this time, and the reasons for these changes and recommendations for further improvement in performance. I will show the stages of learning in volleyball and individual volleyball motor skills, by justifying my response. I will discuss the use of skill classifications: open/closed, locomotor/non-locomotor, discrete/serial/continuous and fine/gross skills, as well as types of practice and subroutine. Skill acquisition is primarily concerned with acquiring, developing and enhancing skilled performance. Skill acquisition is important, the ability of individuals to experience, learn and refine motor skills. A motor or movement skill is an activity that involves muscular movement with the correct degree of control, to complete a complex task e.g. (running a race). To perform a motor skill successfully you need to be able to breakdown the skill into its component parts/set instructions. The characteristics of a skilled performer must perform consistently, react quickly with precision, movements are well organised and to read patterns and anticipate responder. We worked on our digging techniques and the skills that are involved in digging the ball. We also had our warm-ups, where we had to jog around the court; we also had to get into peers facing each other at least 5 metres apart, my partner is to through the ball at me, while I am are getting ready to dig it directly back to my partner, then repeat. Most athletes use motivation to direct their intensity into their sporting situation. However, if I had a greater source of motivation, such as competition, I believe my performance ability would have been able to reach an even higher level. Motivation can also be further improved by self-talk. Overall by using the psychological sport techniques of imagery, performance routines, concentration, motivation, self-talk, anxiety and arousal I have been able to improve my performance within class and on the volleyball court.
