[pic] Reflective Essay Charmaine Smith - 06006386 Tutor : Marilyn Ricketts Date : December 6, 2010 Reflective Essay Topic: Place of reading and writing in University to date When I first thought of what I wanted to do with my life after university, the first thing I thought of was working with figures. The next step is deciding what I wanted to do with my life was to examine how I could accomplish this goal. So I decided to major in Social Science at the University of the West Indies specializing in accounting. With this major, I will be able to further my education in ways to be more marketable and effective at my organization. I decided that being an accountant was something I was really interested in and also my oral and communication skill was not up to standard and attending the university I would be able to accomplish this task. My first day at the University of the West Indies, I decided I would do all my writing paper in my final year. I knew that was my weakest area was communication task not knowing that if I had done my FD10A first I would have being much better in all my written examinations. As Albert Einstein says and I quote Learn from yesterday, live for today, hope for tomorrow, the important thing is to not stop questioning. Last summer I decided to do my entry level English Language course (UC010), I was going to give this course my all because this was one of my weak areas. To my surprise I was doing well, I was proud of myself, I realized my weakest link in English Language was verb tense agreement. I had to write a number of essays using a variety of techniques, before I did that course, I would write assuming that the only reader, or audience, would be my teacher, composition helped me realize the many steps that are involved in the writing process from free writing to making a final copy.
