Reflections or Self-findings As I reflect back and asked the questions of what molded me to be the person I am today, I can see how the pieces of the puzzle made a picture “ME!”. Looking at various puzzle pieces or functions; reading, writing, listening, speaking, visual presentation and viewing, the questions are asked how or what influenced them. To date, I still don’t read as much as I should, my reading influence’s started real early but mostly as a competition between me and my parents. My parents bought me whatever book I asked for and they rewarded me with books if I completed something. As I think of all of the books I have on my book shelf; that I have been fortunate enough to share with my nieces and nephews, I realize I had a variety. They were diversified but my Barbie collection and Dr. Suess wins in collections. My mom reminded me that I had sparks of interest and that it depended on what I wanted to know or a report of some sort. Though I didn’t own any Black History books I read many of my parents books when we were preparing for our annual Youth Heritage Expo. Now my writing has a mind of its own, I don’t feel I’m a good writer even though I probably had all of the writing materials I needed. Each year I would get every mechanical pencil there was because they were pretty. I would say this is a gender thing. I would practice the technique of writing, like my name and other’s names; I’d print and practice my signature which as of today, I still have not perfected. But, content was not a priority for me facts not fiction was always my priorities. Now none of that has to do with race, class, or diversity, again they say girls have better handwriting than boys, but I guess it’s who you ask. My listening and speaking skills as I reflect back really came from two sources, I guess more came from my parents making me speak clearer and
