With an appreciation of EI you will be in harmony with your team and thus able to construct highly successful working relationships with them. According to research, unlike IQ, EI can be gained through conscious efforts in interaction with others, through training and sometimes through peak experiences My Intelligence Quotient (IQ) has got me where I am today but now I need to acquire something called Emotional Intelligence (EI) as well.I am an extroverted persona and often I had often misinterpreted Extroverted social skills as Emotional Intelligence. However, I realized that EI refers to my ability to manage, monitor and regulate my emotions in a balanced and healthy manner in order to achieve my personal and business objectives. Based upon Salovey and Mayer(1990) I must ensure to use the four components of EI effectively. Self-awareness – take charge of both your positive and negative emotions Self-regulation– discover the interrelationships between emotions and gauge how they develop and mutate with time.
Sometimes different is good, that is what makes the world a giant melting pot of diversity. Now knowing exactly what type of personality I have is a great asset to have because, I now know what are the strengths and weaknesses I have in my personality. Maybe there is a way I can work on these weaknesses to make myself a better person. Working socially is a good start; I can share my strengths with people around me from my personality. As well as for an education point of view this will help me as far as connecting myself with people that have similar personalities as me.
Decision making with your employees will let them gain respect for the leader and become more determined. This style will bring strength between you and your employees. Laissez-Faire-This style is used when the leader is lazy or distracted, it’s more of a you do what you want style. This style can be used when the team is highly capable and motivated, it’s when the team doesn’t need close monitoring or supervision. This style can cause failure when the leader expects the group to make the decision between themselves when they are un sure about what they need to achieve and how they need to accomplish the task.
I need to be aware of the most up to date legislations and guidelines, and the welfare requirements. As a member of management it is even more vital that I am aware and up to date with the above, as part of my role is to guide, support and influence other staff to do well in their own roles. Your own professional development does not only impact on yourself but other staff, the organisation and people who use the service. Reflective practice is a huge part of professional development and you need to be skilful in this to really benefit from it, criticising your own practice isn’t always easy but if you take a step back and look at it from different points of view it can really benefit yourself and your skills. To improve my own knowledge is very important to me and I really enjoy learning new skills which can benefit my roles or future roles.

This means that I too provide the necessary tools for my employees to succeed, however, I do follow through to ensure that no employee is falling behind in any of their tasks and responsibilities. I choose to focus on the positives and strengths instead of the negatives and the weaknesses. Many managers in my current firm do not take the proper time to shape their employees to be successful. I believe that the extra time that is spent training each employee, will yield higher and more positive results in the long run. By spending extra time with each employee also shows care and respect for each person.
I don’t see this as a great disadvantage, why stress out endeavoring to be perfect all the time? I did pretty well and I’m quite proud of that. 3. What did you learn
Training and reflection will have positive effects for both the service user and the service provider. Reflective practice helps staff analyse complicated situations and help them make the best resolution. Analysing situations allow staff members to choose the best option that will benefit service users the most, allowing the care of them to be superior. Reflective practice also helps improve staff members’ problem solving skills. This means that the care of the service users will be improved since the staff are able to solve problems quickly and effectively.
