Being in Mr. Bostwicks class I’ve learned a lot. My grammar has improved. I have learned better study habits and I think I have really grown with my writing abilities. Mr. Bostwick has taught my an easier way to set up my paragraphs. One of Mr. Bostwicks many mantras he has us memorize is something I think really helps me and it goes a little something like this “ words make up phrases and clauses, phrases and clauses makes sentences, sentences makes paragraphs, and paragraphs makes composition.” Altogether I give mister Bostwick my SEAL of approval.
He offered a lot of help and was willing to make notes on my paper to attempt at helping me make my paper the best it could possibly be. I really appreciate his time and effort and definitely took in to account some of the great and helpful feedback he gave me. Another person I would also like to shortly thank is Professor Miller. She took the time out of her busy schedule to sit down and have a conference with me and go over any questions. It made it easier to figure out exactly what she was looking for in my paper.
Within each section it states what the students should be able to achieve for example under speaking and listening it states We want out students to develop increasing confidence and competence in speaking and listening so they are able to: • Clarify and explain their ideas and explain their thinking. • Use a varied and specialised vocabulary. • Listen with understanding and respond sensitively and appropriately. Under reading it states we want our students to enjoy reading, to be able to use their reading to help them learn to develop increasing confidence and competence in reading so that they are able to: • Read fluently and with understanding. • Select information from a wide range of texts and resources including print, media and to evaluate those sources.
You have a visual/graphic learning style. Recalling pictures, diagrams, or slideshows while taking a test means you visually learned the material. Learning by sight is probably one of the most common learning styles. Educators often use visual aids to teach, because students often understand the material better. Being able to see what has been being talked about in the class all week, makes learning easier for a visual learner.
Focusing so hard on excelling in English I was having a hard time acknowledging the basic sentence patterens staying devoted I past it. As growing up and still intrigue about learning more english, shockingly there is more that must be learn. Learning the importance of English I gained hobbies, education, and my writting technique. Over the years I have growned and I use English in my everyday life. I enjoy that I was able to learn how to comprehend the words that I was brought upon and use them to my advantage.As I got better understanding English I seem to be amired by books that keep me amazed by the knowledge that I learn from what I have read.
Questions for Discussion 1. I have come to believe that a love of reading is established in English classes, my experience with this results from my love of reading blossoming through my Language Arts classes when I was younger and has continued to grow once I transitioned into my high school English classes. 2. I actually disagree with Prose’s statement in which teachers deny other experiences besides their personal ones. I have been able to explore the experience offered within the book and have been able to fully grasp what the book offers.
The middle school students increased their abilities to locate main ideas when challenged with exercises in the lesson cycle. The lesson cycle was effective because it gave students practice with text structures, signal words, and graphic organizers (Montelongo, Herter, Ansaldo, & Hatter, 2010). The students also confirmed their comprehension through the correct rewriting of the given text. The authors conclude the study by acknowledging that further study is needed in order to evaluate the quality of expository writing and its effectiveness on comprehension. They further recognize that this study was limited to the specific use of main idea placement in either the first or last
The study had the participants answer research questions to see their reactions to a blended learning atmosphere and what effects the blended learning environment had on their L2 writing skills. The research showed that the students found the model sufficient, valuable, flexible, inspiring, satisfying, pleasing, and useful. It was received in a positive manner. The blended learning model allowed opportunities for more student interaction with their classmates and teacher which helped the participants gain higher test scores throughout the course. The article is an academic journal that is supported by facts and has been peer reviewed.
If I am having a conversation in person or by email, I will understand the meaning by using the words in my everyday life. How might this plan help you accomplish your reading goals? This plan will help me accomplish my goals by building my vocabulary, helping me to be more focused with my studies, and will have more knowledge about many different topics. Adding more words to my vocabulary is beneficial to me because I will be able to understand more of what my family, friends and co-workers are talking about. It will also help me with my studies, and also when I have to write a paper or presentation.
Some skills that I have received from my mentors and supervisors that I have had the privilege of working with are that I have become more comfortable in public settings, improving my verbal skills on a professional level and having to draft letters of intent for field trips, fundraisers and order forms which has greatly improved my written communication skills as well. I believe that these skills that I have obtained throughout my year of tutoring can gravely benefit me in the full time classroom setting.
