1. Some might say the crime of the 21st century will be white collar. If that is true, what will be the major types of cybercrime? How can we safeguard against it?
ANSWER: I totally agree, white collar crimes will be among the top crimes committed in the 21st century. With so many people gaining access to computers, the internet is a virtual playground. The increase in the amount of kids and young adults using credit cards for a fast growing number online transactions, accounts for most of the cyber crimes. In my opinion Fraud will be the most prevalent crimes committed online. I have been personally affected by Cyber Terrorism, Harassment and even Obscene and Offensive Content. I can remember it like it was yesterday. I was sitting at my desk engaging in what I believed to be an intimate conversation the use requested a photograph and I sent a picture, I immediately requested a photo as well. The user started to upload a file to my computer. The file I sent was around 600-700 kb (kilobytes) ,however the file the user sent back was mp\ore that 2 MB (megabytes).
The action instantly raised a red flag, as the file began to upload I noticed the name “Trojan” on the on the file name. I quickly loaded Google and executed a search for “what a Trojan is by now the download bar was near 79% and rising quite fast. By the time learned that “Trojans” where viruses that allow hackers to not only view your files but modify them as well the download bar was at 94%. I instantly powered down my computer and took a deep breath. After an hour ½ or so I thought powering up would a good idea. Reaching the login screen with no problem gave me a sense of comfort, but after a successful login my Norton antivirus software detected a threat.
