Reducing Juvenile Delinquency Charlotte Taylor Abstract Parents in this generation do not believe in stern or strict discipline they would rather spoil, or become a friend to their child which has caused a great deal of issues with the crime statistics. Although, they meant well; but to the child it is just a clear way of saying “do what you want” when you are ready. Today most parents have learned to take the “long-arm” approach to raising their children without being blind to the laws laid down by them and the government. When a teen commits a crime he/she become a juvenile. The negligence and criminal behavior is what makes them a juvenile delinquent. Most teens commit crimes more times than they have been to jail; which has caused a great deal of confusion in the community, to their parents, and to the justice department. Although, there are numerous reason why a child commits a crime the politicians, parents, and the community is finding ways to prevent juvenile delinquency every day. Criminal Justice: Reducing Juvenile Delinquency The teens of the world today think they know everything about life. However, when an adult tries to teach them right from wrong, they look the other way. More trouble arise when the parent(s) try and spank their child when he/she does something wrong, especially when a crime has been committed. What options are there to deter children from violence? There are three ways to reduce juvenile delinquency worldwide. Corporal Punishment Most people are aware of the old saying “spare the rod, spoil the child”. In other words, it is just another way of not handing down corporal punishment. Corporal punishment should be introduced to every child, and they should be afraid of what their parent(s) will do if they get into trouble.
