Running and sharp senses are their main defense (Zwaschka 11). One deer will signal another with sounds and actions when they sense danger. Deer try to avoid predators by being quiet while searching for food or water. White-tailed deer use speed to escape approaching predators, such as coyotes, lynx, and wolves (Zwaschka 18). They can also run up to speeds of 40 miles per hour.
The reflection story I choose is called Why I Hunt: A Predators Meditation by Rick Bass. The short story tells of Bass’s love of hunting for both elk and deer. However, the significance of the story goes far beyond merely killing an animal for its meat, as it tells mostly of the emotional struggle he feels as a hunter. Bass acknowledges the fact that he is a predator but wonders if his insatiable need for meat will somehow affect him in a later life. He questions whether or not he will have to pay for all of the innocent animals’ deaths that he has caused.
I’m almost 100% positive that bow hunting is one of the harder and more physically and mentally challenging sports. With rifle hunting the challenge seems so much easier to somebody that has been bow hunting for most of their life. The challenges between these two types
“Up home we wear a hat like that to shoot deer in, for Chrissake,” he said. “That’s a deer shooting hat.” “Like hell it is.” I took it off and looked at it. I sort of closed one eye, like I was taking aim at it. “This is a people shooting hat,” I said. “I shoot people in this hat.”(Salinger) This quote shows his desire for independence, and underlines the theme of Alienation, with the struggle to stay away from conformity.
From this point on Rainsford is not a huntee . Richard Connell uses Rainsford and General Zaroff to exhibit a switch in huntee , hunter role . In “ The Most Dangerous Game , “when Whitney said “ The world is made up of two classes the hunters and the huntees. Luckily you and I are the hunters ,” it showed that Rainsford and Whitney are middle / high class and much more powerful than the animals hunted , huntees. This quote also shows that there will be a point in the story where Rainsford experiences being an “animal .
In addition, the time-honored habits of fishing and hunting on which their survival depended were the main aspect for the annual change between seasonal camps up and down the Penobscot River valley (pg 6). From “waterways and the well-trodden trails,” Algonquian hunters could look for food with deer, moose, beavers, muskrats, and they could collect clams and lobsters, speared seals, and porpoises. Another important feature of the Penobscot was their mobility because it was needed for the hunting life. Therefore, they organized into many small groups and the men would make the decision according to the change of the weather. The social activities of Algonquians would change on each season, and “the paper birch tree” was the significant
Their image as a selective eater is only a legend. Rainbows are not quite as piscivorous or aggressive as brown trout or lake trout (char). Young rainbows survive on insects, fish eggs, smaller fish (up to 1/3 of their length), along with crayfish and other crustaceans. As they grow, though, the proportion of fish increases in most all populations. Some lake dwelling lines may become planktonic feeders.
The Mayans used spears and traps to hunt animals like wild boar and deer. These traps were made from nets of long vines and leaves that would lead an animal to where the hunter wanted it to go. Their inventions were very cleaver; they laid out “trip wire” that would trigger a much larger spear like object that would kill a large animal instantly.
Zach Kahan Mrs. Jaramillo Period 7 Sir Gawain Essay 10/30/12 The Two Kinds of Hunt In Sir Gawain and the Green Knight, there are three animals that are used as metaphors for human actions. Many animals were thought to have qualities like humans in the time that this poem was written including the three animals that were hunted in Sir Gawain. The three animals that are hunted are the deer, boar, and fox. People, in the time that Sir Gawain and the Green Knight was written, associated the fox with being sneaky and treacherous. The deer is thought to be more honorable then the fox but still elusive and was always ready to flee before fighting.
Horse Slaughtering Is it wrong or not? Horse slaughtering is the killing of horses for human consumption. There were three horse slaughtering plants in the U.S. at one time. There were two in Texas and one in Illinois. The advantages are for the other countries that get food from our horses they get a cheap kind of meat.
