Reasons Against Gun Control

Gun Control I am against gun control. I strongly believe that as Americans, we have a right to own a gun. This right was given to us in the Second Amendment which stated the "right to bear arms". Guns are used as protection in many cases. Guns are not the problem when it comes to death and other crimes. Even if it were possible to get rid of all guns, it does not mean it will stay that way. I stand by the right to own guns. Everyone assumes that people who own guns are probably going to do something bad with them. On the contrary, most people own guns for hunting, target shooting, and protection. It is true that there are not many cases of people actually protecting themselves with guns, but "defensive gun use (DGU) is relatively common, that even a diehard gun control advocate with any principles and common sense would admit that this fact must be given some weight" (How Often Do We...). People with the intent to harm someone can and will still get guns. One way is through illegal arms dealers or the cartel. Also they can be straw purchased. "A straw purchase occurs when someone who may not legally acquire a firearm, or who wants to do so anonymously, has a companion buy it on their behalf" (Hot Guns). There is also the black market which can provide fund. People need to realize that guns are not the problem. Guns have the ability to keep us safe when we are in danger. They enable us to put food on the table for our families. We need to weigh the positive and negatives of owning guns. People will come to see that the positives outweigh the negatives. Works Cited 1.
