The question now arises is that why we in general and teachers in particular should reflect on our practice? Firstly, it is required for personal and professional growth. With the help of reflective writings we attempt to enhance our mental capabilities and improve our practice. Also, it helps us to do things right and be able to justify our actions. Reflective writings make us creative and innovative and facilitate us to consider fundamental issues in learning.
The need for love and belonging can be met in an ECCE setting by operating a key worker system. Self-esteem: our need for self-esteem involves our need to feel good about ourselves. This can be met in the ECCE setting by praising children for their efforts, respecting children and displaying their work. Assignment 6-3 Strategies for Self-Coaching Approaches to Self-Coaching Self-Coaching is a skill that needs to be acquired and one needs to know him or herself in order to have an effective and successful self-coaching.There are three strategies that comes to mind about self-coaching and these are : self-awareness/self –discovery, change in reaction of thoughts and speaking to myself. Self-awareness is knowing the kind of personality one has –like strengths,emotions ,weakness ,thoughts ,belifes and capabilities.Self-awareness allows me to understand myself and other people and that makes me display a better attitude at any given time.It is always important to think positive as the human mind is powerful.I can coach myself better if I refrain from negative thoughts;for example,when I start the day by saying “It’s going to be a great day” …I realize that even when a challenging situation comes my way my thoughts ,reactions and attitude towards the situation seems to be better than when I start with “ I can already tell that this day is going to be a rough one “. Each one of us has a unique way of dealing with stress. Being able to avoid stressful situations and cope with them is the mark of a capable stress management program. Some coping skills include: self-awareness, being able to talk out problems, and good nutrition. Also, physical fitness, learning to relax, and managing your time effectively, are great examples of stress relievers. Since we are all unique individuals, it is up to us to find the combination of techniques that work best in reducing our stressors.
Life’s isn’t always fair; however, if we have hope we can overcome any challenge. By using our strengths and resources we can achieve our goals despite any challenge or circumstances life throws our way. I can model that hope for the people I serve and support them in using their strengths to discover new ways of achieving their goals.
