REACTION PAPER - SONA 2013 (SONA of President Benigno S. Aquino, 2013) Our honorable President Benigno “Noynoy” S. Aquino delivered his 4th State of the Nation Address (SONA) on July 22, 2013, Monday. As observed on this event, it was President Aquino’s longest SONA so far yet applauded less compared to last year. According to Mr. President, in his 3 years of becoming the President of the Philippines, his administration had been gone through many obstacles. He also said that there will be two more SONA in the future for him. In the first part of his SONA speech, he acknowledged and congratulated his Administration for sweeping most of the positions last Senatorial elections which was happened on May 2013. He was also proud to mention about the 4Ps or the Pantawid sa Pamilyang Pilipino Program of the government and those of the students who graduated under the TESDA courses that most of them got a job already according to himself. Actually, SONA this year were focused on the achievement of the government, the approval of the Sin Tax Reform Law and “Responsible Parenthood Law” which became controversial during its hearing stage. Reforms in Education System (K-12) was also mentioned along with the increase of Philhealth users and its improved benefits, the allocation budget for flood control in Metro Manila as well as the budget for Typhoon Sendong Housing victims, the reduction number of private armed groups, the increase of foreign tourist arrivals, the growth of Gross Domestic Product and the changes to hike SSS contributions and train fees. Based on the subjects mentioned during the SONA of President Noynoy Aquino 2013, it was clear that his administration up to this time accomplished many and helpful things for the country despite of the doubts for the administration.
