Last Wednesday, January 23, the Guidance Council in Foundation University sponsored a forum about teenage and unwanted pregnancies. Maybe, it’s a little awkward to attend a forum about this but it is not all about women. Men should be involved in this too because literally a girl cannot be pregnant without a boy. Teenage Pregnancy is a very serious issue dealt with today in our society. Thus, teenage pregnancy is a bigger deal than what people think it might be. Each year one million teenage women become pregnant. Teenagers today are growing up in a society in which peers, TV, and music gives a message that unmarried sexual relationships are a common part to growing up as a teenager today. When in fact, that is not the reality of this relationship when teenage pregnancy is still a major concern for today’s society. The term, “having babies”, is so meaningful when looking at the problems that teen pregnancy can create for the baby being born to and raised by a teenage mother. The younger a teen is when he or she first has sex the more likely he or she is to have unprotected sex resulting in a pregnancy or STD. Well, there are many reasons that teenagers may have sex. Some of the reasons mentioned in the forum are: * Curiosity. * Pressure from an older boy or girlfriend to have sex. * The media conveys the idea that teen sex is common and acceptable. * Teens often do not get good information about sex, relationships, and values from reliable sources, such as parents. * For girls, a belief that having sex will give them emotional
