1 – More than half of British children by the age of sixteen are obese and as a result, many have health related problems. 2 – One third of adolescents blame the lack of sports / activity sessions available to them and a lack of knowledge of such sessions available to them in their surrounding areas. 3 – More than one third of adolescents are unaware of the current recommended activity levels which should amount to THREE 30-40 minute sessions of physical, FUN activity each week. I think that it is important to provide a variety of enrichment activities during out of college hours time, not just focusing on the sporting element but also activities classed as non-traditional, such as dancing, frisbee and chess. To help you make the right choice(s) please answer the following questions :- • Which physical activities do you enjoy (if any)? • Which physical activities have you taken part in? • Would it help get you started if you had a variety of activity tester sessions that you could choose from and attend? • Which physical activities would you like to see developed at college? • When would you like activities to be held – e.g. weekdays, evenings or weekends? • Would it help if you could sign up for a class or structured session? REMEMBER YOU DON’T HAVE TO BE AN ATHLETE TO TAKE PART IN PHYSICAL ACTIVITY – JUST ENJOY AND HAVE FUN!
