Go Back To Where You Came From requires an understanding of the development and journey of discovery that an individual goes through in various situations. This understanding is necessary for the audience to fully absorb the meaning and purpose of the social experiment. A text of discovery can encompass the experience of discovering something for the first time or rediscovering something that has been lost, forgotten or concealed. A discovery text must have an effect on its audience in order to stimulate new ideas or values, whether that is an emotional, creative, intellectual, physical or spiritual response. A composer of discovery often invites their audience to experience the concept both in and through the text by representing the process using a variety of language modes, forms and features. The participants of the SBS program Go Back To Where You Came From are presented with many obstacles that challenge their previous perspectives. Raquel made multiple physical discoveries that disputed with her original beliefs and opinions on the subject of asylum seekers. She also made an emotional discovery that she could appreciate and associate with people regardless of their race, heritage or ethnicity. Raye was able to make her discoveries by relating to the situations that the refugees went through. Her original views on the issue absorbed her mind and began to appear as issue to her mental health as her hatred and lack of sympathy consumed her.
