Ed's friends in The Messenger become like his family, as a family does they guide and support him through his journey. We also see the theme self-discovery throughout the poem Fifteen. All three texts have a varied yet definite connection to a family's influence on someones journey to self-discovery. Alice's family in Unpolished Gem have a fateful influence her. Alice's parents tell her who she is permitted to see.
High over warriors you are exalted, to be king of the people Enlil made it your destiny!” (16).They seal their new friendship with embracing one another and a kiss. Some other evidence that shows that there is a sense of friendship is when Gilgamesh’s mother, Nimsun, makes Enkidu her son which now makes the two men brothers. Another thing is when they go on their adventure together and how they fight the different creatures. They work well together to achieve their goals and this shows that there is a relationship that is very strong between them. Finally when Enkidu dies, Gilgamesh goes into mourning and this can definitely be seen when he goes on his adventure alone When comparing the two characters, there a just a few similar characteristics between them.

Husbands and wives share and construct a life together. They build upon their feelings and mold their emotions into an understanding structure of unison. However, sometimes wives become stifled by their husband’s controlling hand.
Her father had a nice job, which sometimes kept him away, but he always brought gifts for his family, to show his care for them. Meanwhile her mother was the hostess who entertained anyone who knocked on her door, and provided everyone with gifts. The life before the war comfortable, yet filled with embarrassments at times from the cultural ways of her ancestry, even though they weren't strict followers. She describes her life as always being surrounded by people, friends of parents, who visited constantly, which vexed her because her mother could hardly find time to herself and with her daughters. The deep generosity of her family shows the good morals that she grew up with, as her mother taught her and her sister that "Indifference is the worst fault of all" .
A final example is when he sneaks in to see his younger sister Phoebe. Both were happy to see one another. He even “quit worrying about whether they’d catch [him] at home or not” (163). By not caring about whether his parents caught him and going to see Phoebe showed that Holden was searching for a family, and that same feeling of something constant in his life. The reconnections with something have shown his attempts at trying to find that
Oedipus, from the play “Oedipus” also written by Sophocles, asks Creon, his brother in-law, to take care of his two daughters Antigone and Ismene. Creon happens to keep his word and continues to care for the two girls right up until the conflict that arises in the play “Antigone.” Creon also reveals his bond between himself and his son, Haemon. Once Creon announces Haemon's soon to be wife, Antigone's execution, Creon asks Haemon if they're “Still friends, in spite of everything, my son?”(143). Towards the end of the play, Creon's inability to recognize the love that ties Antigone to her brother results in his downfall, and he is left to suffer with the loss of his family. Sophocles shows through the character of Creon that if you do not put family first, you will not have a family at
They celebrate the two biggest events in the Tongans life, which is marriage and death. Even though their kids and grandkids are; first, second, or third generation, their parents and grandparents are sure to instill values, and customs that not only they bring from the Pacific Islands, but also their strong family value of no matter the distance of a cousin, or aunt; immediate family is all members of the family. I think if parents could teach their kids any traditional customs from their ethnic background, then we'd have more to share with one another, and possibly be more united because everyone would have something to bring to the "salad" bowl, which may bring a bond between people, or a similarity they never knew they had with others from a
Penelope’s Perspective According to Betine Van Zyl Smit, in her article, “From Penelope to Winne Mandela Woman Who Waited,” I, Penelope, am the faithful wife in Homer’s Odyssey (393). Smit identifies that "although the Odyssey is an epic, it is also a tale of marriage" in which Penelope waits "in Ithaca for (her) husband Odysseus to return" (393).While I wait; I look after his house, son and fortunes. In the modern world today, I see so many women to whom their situations are a little different but yet similar to mine. They are still faithful to their husbands no matter where they might be. The wives admired their husbands' courage, although their husbands are not battling giant Cyclops or in sword fights.
