This causes thousands of people to become homeless and displaced. Also, not every household had flood insurance, so then FEMA stepped in to assist these people. This process of FEMA stepping in to help people in need of emergency help is very expensive. Government funds are used to give people mobile homes to live in and money to help fix their destroyed homes. Insurance companies were pounded after the storm with many insurance claims due to all the flooding and wind damage.
This hurricane killed about 40 people in New York City and most of the deaths were in Staten Island. Hurricane Sandy also caused major flooding in many places like Long Island, Staten Island and lower part of Manhattan. A lot of Con Edison trucks are trying to fix the power shortages and also remove many trees that had fallen. Many bridges were also closed and so many people couldn’t get to work.
Tenement houses within these cities became incredibly crowded and crammed along narrow paths or streets. Whole families were living in attics, cellars, or single rooms, with one house holding up to 60 people in multiple rooms. Sanitation was not common in a lot of cities even making clean water for the rich a luxury. Sewers ran down streets, wide-open, carrying water fouled with industrial and human waste. Tuberculosis, typhoid and cholera were diseases that developed in many cities killing thousands.

Like I mentioned earlier, this doesnt mean accidents will not happen during the summer months. During the summer, heavy rains occur which make it hard to see. Also the roads can become very slippery. This is why just like winter driving, summer driving takes experience and caution. Summer and winter driving are simliar but different in some ways.

In Portland, the climate is considered mild. In the fall, you can expect large amounts of rain and highs in the range of 50-60 degrees. In the winter, it cools down and the rain may be interrupted by a few blustery snow showers, effectively shutting the city down and making commutes a nightmare during the wintry storms. As spring rolls into summer, the skies clear and the sun comes out. With the additional warmth, the landscape comes alive with flowers and everything is bursting with color.
Ethnography In October, the East Coast was hit by one of the most destructive hurricanes since Irene. Although this hurricane was very much anticipated, the after math was much greater than expected. While everyone waited as the hurricane approached, many people prepared by trying to seal up their homes in hopes of avoiding as much damage as possible. Aside from flooding, there were reports of people losing their power due to the high winds. The power loss was so immense that even hospitals that had backup generators had to evacuate from the facility.
The danger of earlobes, nose, fingers, and toes is great at low temperatures. Respiratory damage is possible, but not likely. Make sure to use a scarf to cover the nose and mouth when in extreme cold weather conditions. Hypothermia -When your body starts to lose heat faster than it can produce it. - This leads to progressive muscular fatigue.
This can become a hassle too; if you have so much clothing on that it hinders your movement. Cold weather does have the advantage of being able to huddle for warmth. Cold weather can cause problems like frost on the windshield. It can make you go and start your car earlier so your windshield will defrost. You can also wait until the last second and search for an extension cord and then plug it into your hair dryer so you can defrost your windshield with it.
