In the poem Railway Station by Rabindranath Tagore, the events described in the poem very much mirrors the events that happen in our daily lives. Like in a railway station, people nowadays are often too busy and aren’t focusing enough on the more important, meaningful and enjoyable things in life. The poem describes life at a railway station with an atmosphere of separation from the world outside the railway station – the people in a railway station are often in a rush, and the fast paced movement in a railway station disguises one’s thoughts and feelings at that moment in time – people are just so determined to get to their destination as quickly as possible, that the rest of reality is blurred out in their minds. The sound typically is not a pleasant one to most people, and that implies that it is a negative sound, and because it is repetitive, it disturbs the peace of the railway station. Tagore uses this technique to show that because this sound negatively disturbs the peace, it is much like people being distracted by small things and not focusing on more important things in life. Tagore uses techniques like the ones mentioned above to show that people should enjoy the more important things in life, and try not to get distracted in the busyness of life. The techniques he uses are effective because the vocabulary he uses and the way he describes the railway station on a day-to-day basis clearly shows the message he is trying to convey, and the reader can easily find a connection between the poem and their daily
