At this Center the patients are Cancer related. As I spend more time as an intern at this Center I was inspired by Dr. Howard Bruckner work how he help and gave hope to many of these people, had myself raise some questions on the concepts and wonder what it would be like to be a part of the Bruckner Oncology team or somewhat relate to this field. I believe that Medical Assistant program classes at ASA College help gave me an opportunity to pursue my passion for helping those with medical problems and let me feel at ease on the first hand training at the Center of Bruckner Oncology. At the Bruckner Oncology Center I learn to Answering phones and making appointments ordering supplies, greeting patients, pulling and filing patient charts, calling in or faxing prescriptions, converting charts to electronic charting. Hopefully I can take these skills I learn and better myself in life.
I was born with a condition called a lipomyelomeningocele. Thankfully, this has had no impact on my nervous system or functional abilities. However, from childhood through adolescence, I frequented the hospital on a regular basis to monitor the effects of my birth defect. My father went through medical school to become an Army osteopathic physician and this also sparked my curiosity. I am fairly certain I grew up hearing more medical terminology than standard vocabulary words.
I wanted to make my parents proud because of what I was doing. I want to be able to provide for my kids in ways my parents couldn’t always afford too and that’s when I started looking into it more thoroughly. I ended up coming into realization that being a Medical Assistant was also something that started to interest me. I love helping people and meeting new people as well. I work in a place where I see new faces every day, it’s always nice to interact with them and learn a little bit about them in just a matter of a few seconds.
I am interested in working in a dynamic, forward thinking and inspiring environment and I believe NCHS School would provide that. I know I can offer a passion and enthusiasm that is contagious to students and colleagues alike,
The programs offered at the honors college will allow me to achieve this goal of giving back to the community in a way that generates a long-lasting impact. As a part of the honors college, I would like to get involved in helping on and off campus. By organizing and being a part of service learning events, I will gain leadership and communication skills that will be used forever. The experiences I will gain from being a part of the honors college will impact me for the rest of my life. I plan on using these skills and experiences to impact others in a positive way.
I felt that would benefit me as I went to nursing school. I would have a hands on prospective that not everyone would have. Going through nursing school was difficult. I was divorced with two small children. But in the end, I appreciated what I had worked so hard for and completed.
At GCU (Grand Canyon University) they had a presentation on Medical Technology and the careers related to it and let me tell you one thing, I found my true passion. This wasn’t the kind of passion I had for music, it was a whole new level of passion. This was something I could see my self doing for the rest of my life. It was going to be more than just a hobbie. It was going to my future.
Often small hospitals get use to the way their work flows and since there were no huge problems, none of the staff felt it needed to be addressed. Once staff saw the positive outcomes and heard from our community patients that they loved the new progress, the staff embraced the change. Our breastfeeding rate went from 60% to 71% in 6 months. Even the most argumentative staff members stated it was hard to dispute all the positives. Ultimately it was patients we served that dictated the change but it was the nurses that allowed and help facilitate the growth of our
The financial conditions of my home did not allow me to go for a bachelor’s degree at that time as it was very expensive as we all were in nursing school at the same time. So I decided to go for my Associate Degree first and then move on. Marriage, relocation to USA, kids and so forth and on, pushed my BSN degree this far. Although being a nursing student was a bit of a challenge, the strong determination in my mind pulled me through the course .I loved the neuro- surgical /trauma ICU the best during my clinical rotations. So soon after my graduation, the hospital gave me the choice to decide where I would like to work and I decided to go for neurosurgery.
Growing up I was taught to give more than I receive. I enjoyed doing community service. It was the first time I was exposed to needy children, I had wanted to become a doctor indefinitely. Knowing that I wanted to pursue a career in medicine, I had registered to become a volunteer at the local Sharp hospital. This was a huge step into becoming more closely involved wtih the surroundings I would experience once I am through with medical school.
