The more common form of racism today is religious racism, such as the Muslims killing as many Jews and Christians as they can. Most of these terrible atrocities do not happen as much as they used to, such as in the 1950’s, but they still do exist, and The United States, as a nation, should strive to stop racism in all forms. A second, and equally important, societal issue in the book, A Raisin in the Sun, is poverty. Poverty affects us all. With today’s economy being as it is, people have a hard time finding jobs, or a place to live; some people even struggle to keep food on the table for their families.
This is not right, or rational that people would risk so much in order to come to the United States, to work a job that most American citizens will not work. Yet we are hateful and mean, protesting, these people rights to make a living and support their families, if the work wasn’t here they would not come. Do you think the Native Americans like what happened to them, when the first generation immigrated to American, many Native Americans are still suffering the effect of the colonization of America. Published in the Huffington post a video “Native American Man Tells Anti-Illegal Immigration Protesters Who 'The Real Illegal Immigrants Are’ it goes on to say that a Native American man tells protesters “We didn’t invite none of you here. We’re the only Native Americans here.”(Ramos Z 2013) Are the Americans that don’t support open borders scared, because they don’t want what happened to the Native Americans,
The war had seen over 1.2 million black men join the US army. The experiences of racism and formal segregation had radicalised the soldiers, especially the Northern blacks, as they had never encountered the harsh treatment of blacks in the Southern states. Many soldiers would later join the fight against segregation back home; the evidence for this was the massive rise in NAACP members. Furthermore, at liberation of Nazi concentration camps, the extreme horrors of racism for a ‘lesser’ race was shown to US and the world, this convinced many people back in the US that racism was completely unacceptable. The impact from the war influenced public opinion on racism, however they couldn’t make de facto changes regarding segregation and so wasn’t the main reason for the improvement in effecting the position of African-Americans.
After not only losing a huge amount of land to the United States of America, many Mexicans such as the gold diggers and even New Mexicans that had already been residing in American territory had to face problems with their own civil rights and citizenship (pg.103, pg.104). This is what shaped the geographical boundaries that the United States has today. The Mexican war did not leave a pleasing result for New Mexico and many of the Mexicans residing in the Southwest because of the violent attacks coming from the Indians in their settlements (pg.104). Although Mexico was angered by the loss of their land, some Mexicans in specific were grateful for the settlement because now Mexico had protection from the United States for their properties
The empathy I feel is numb. As sad as it may seem, it affected the lives of millions because of the hate inside of one certain group of people. We learn about these kinds of events because we as Americans do not want this to happen in our nation. Through the many years, we have grown and made our nation stronger. We won’t let discrimination alter our lives in such an unforgivable way.
The Aguilar Family collection of original hand crafted pieces were collected by Rex May over a period of more than a decade from 1969 well into the late 1980s during his many trips to Mexico and his growing bond with the Aguilar Family while desiring to learn and appreciate the knowledge of the Mexican culture. Rex May, was born in Texas which is a bordering U.S. State to the country of Mexico. With all its political issues surrounding immigration, it must have been a source for Rex May’s fascination with the Mexican culture. It is noted his fascination began with a childhood relationship of a classmate from the Mexican Culture. While not allowed to explore the Mexican community in his home town as a child, it only increased his curiosity and desire to understand the Mexican culture well into his adulthood.
We lost a lot of people because of that attack, so that really hurt me on the inside. It made me pretty angry and I wanted our military to do everything possible to get back at them for what they have done. The years have passed and I still think about this event almost every day. It is truly amazing how we take our freedom for granted, and not realize how important truly is. There are people out there fighting for our country every single day and some people don’t respect that as much as they should.
From racial profiling to other issues such as affirmative action, police brutality against minorities and the history of slavery and the rising resentment against immigrants.” (Anup Shah 1998) I think this really does suit racism in the United States. Yes it has come a long way from what it used to be like but we still have problems just like this all over the world. Way back in the day American people didn’t have much racism towards them but Americans were very racist towards everyone who was not American. They had all sorts of racial groups such as the Ku Klux Klan, save our state, and gay groups. These groups of hate have died down over the years but there are still a few out
50 years ago americans generally had a negative attitude towards black/African American people. They were separated from white people, they weren't allowed to use the same bathrooms, benches, playgrounds and schools. But now all that hatred and segregation is a thing of the past, America in now enjoyable for all different races and cultures. Things are not a 100 percent perfect there are still many problems the US faces today. America is facing many different problems social media is asking over the minds of children, the economy is suffering, we have become more
