Quality Improvement Email Lukita Wilson HCS/ 588 Measuring Performance April 20, 2014 Barbara Smith Quality Improvement Email According to the General Medical Council, it is the responsibility of health-care professionals to strive for quality: ‘You must work with colleagues and patients to maintain and improve the quality of your work and promote safety (Arasaratnam, 2012, pg. 257). Quality improvement is an emergent force within the health care facility that contributes to improve the overall health of the patients and meet the quality standards in the organization. Quality improvement is defined as “the combined and unceasing efforts of everyone healthcare professionals, patients and their families, researchers, payers, planners and educators- to make the changes that will lead to better patient outcomes (health), better system performance (care) and better professional development” (Arasaratnam, 2012, pg. 252). This quality improvement paper will discuss the purpose of quality management in the health care industry and why it is needed. This paper will also identify the various health care stakeholders that define the quality of care differently. The report will discuss what roles are involved in quality improvement. The report will also include what areas must be monitored for quality. Also, the paper will recognize roles of accrediting and regulatory organizations are involved in quality improvement and their roles. Additionally, this paper will categorize helpful resources and organizations that affect quality improvement.
