Putin’s still not here: who has the Russian president kept waiting? Twice now has Vladimir Putin been late to a meeting with the German Chancellor Angela Merkel. Negotiations in Milan on the evening of the 16thof Oct began 4 hours later than planned. The meeting, the primary theme of which was the crisis in Ukraine, was under threat of cancellation as Putin arrived from the Serbian capital Belgrade 4 hours later than predicted. Before their meeting on the 1st of June 2012, Merkel was forced to wait for approximately an hour for the Russian president. Here we give an account of who else of the foreign leaders, as well royalty, has been made to wait by Putin, who is notorious for his frequent lack of punctuality. Viktor Janukovych and the bikers In July 2012 Putin set out for a meeting with the president of Ukraine Viktor Janukovych in Yalta, for which he was altogether more than 3 hours late. The reason for that being that on the way the Russian president visited his biker friends from the “Night Wolves” club. The leader of the first official biker club in the USSR, nicknamed “The Surgeon” was a trusted member of Putin’s inner circle during his presidential election campaign two years below. During the meeting in Crimea, the leaders of Russia and Ukraine discussed the approaching global market crisis, gas meetings and the issue of the federal border. 3 years previously, on the 19th of November 2009, then serving as Prime Minister, Putin was 3 hours late to a meeting with his Ukrainian counterpart, Yulia Tymoshenko, also in Yalta. The Pope and Pussy Riot On the 25th of November 2013 was held the first meeting between the Vladimir Putin and Pope Francis.The pontificate was forced to wait a whole 50 minutes for the Russian president.
