09/17/2012 The Truth about Grit In the article “The Truth about Grit” by Jonah Lehrer talks about an important element people should have to be successful in life. Angela Duckworth mentions that “nobody is talented enough to not have to work hard, and that’s what grit allows you to do.” For you to be a successful person you most have to be perseverant and have long term goals. Something I had to learn is that you don’t need to be so intelligent to reach your goals because the key to acquire success is to be persistent and not give up when things seems to be impossible to achieve because good fruits come through your effort. People have reached their goals had been working hard to get what they want. One historical example of this is “The Mirabal’s sisters.” Three young women who fought to give freedom to their country. This happened in the times of Trujillo, the evil president that governed Dominican Republic several years ago. The Mirabal’s sisters are regarded as person with grit because in spite of all the obstacles they had to confront they were persistent to the point that they lost their life to see reach their goal and that way get out Dominican people from the oppression and the terror this president was planted in this country. I consider myself a person with grit and perseverance too. In my case to be an ESL student is a big challenge. Sometimes I feel like if I cannot continue when I see myself wake up at 3 am doing homework, but when I think about my goals I realize that the best way to resolve my problems is not to abandon everything. I am a person that believe very much in God and when I found myself in this situation He is my big reason to continue fighting and reach my goals because I
