Hillary Clinton, the former first lady, tells her life story in "Living History." She does it with grace and caution, revealing only those details not likely to fuel her enemy’s anger . She discusses public and private experiences in her and her husband's lives that everybody already knows. The book covers all her public life including some private matters that had been made public when her husband was president. Living History is Senator Clinton's journey from middle-class american suburbs to the White House. The story of her mother's neglectful upbringing reminds the reader of one of her greatest passions and drives --- the welfare of children. She presumed the American people forgave her husband because his standing in public opinion polls remained high. His standing with her, however, hit rock bottom. Friends began to intercede for Bill. Gradually Hillary realized that Bill was not only her husband, he was her president also, and as her president, he deserved her support. There is the theme throughout the book of Senator Clinton needing to stand on her own as an educated, bright, and committed woman. She writes that the Clinton administration was targeted by “an interlocking network of groups and individuals who want to turn the clock back on many of the advances our country has made, from civil rights to women’s rights to consumer and environmental regulation.” Mrs. Clinton, now Sen. Clinton, is passionate about public policy. She knows her issues in and out, thoroughly. She is willing to fight for her values and beliefs, most of which I share. Her zest for public life is wonderful. The narrative of the White House years is written primarily in the voice of a policy maker, and one with a compassionate heart and solid thinking skills.Living History is a testimony to the strength of Mrs.Clinton as a wife and a citizen, as well as the personal contributions she has made and will continue to make to the government and
