Psychology week 7 assignment 1. Do you believe that people have an unconscious mind? If so, how does it affect thoughts, feelings, and behavior? I do believe everyone has an unconscious mind. I have realized that my unconscious mind stores knowledge through repetitions. When I constantly tell myself about an idea or a belief, my subconscious mind will ultimately accept it. Positive affirmations can therefore be effective in achieving what you want in life because your thoughts control your actions. If you speak unkindly about yourself, then you tend to feel inferior and insecure. I have also become aware that my unconscious mind has a big role in getting rid of bad habits. Since it is in charge of my feelings and emotions, it can generate both enjoyment and fear. My unconscious mind can produce the feeling of fear or anxiety due to their negative effects. This serves as a powerful force for you to quit your vices and bad habits. 2. Have you ever changed a strongly held attitude? What caused the change for you? a. I did not believe in God for a long time. My father is very religious, he always wanted to take me to church, and to pray with him. When my father got cancer, I began to pray; everyday. He overcame cancer, and every Sunday I go to church with him, and I truly do believe in God now. 3. Do you believe that you are free of prejudice? After reading this chapter, which of the many factors that cause prejudice do you think is most important to change? b. Yes, I do believe I am free of prejudice. I do not believe in having a judgmental mind set; I find it offensive when others do. After reading this chapter, I believe the most important factor that causes prejudice to change would have to be are the stereotypes.
