Yet another example is that Hester Prynne became a stronger woman. Guilt is ugly and it can also paralyze you into doing and learning nothing. It can allow the damage or punishment to continue. Hester Prynne was evidence that she overcame her guilt and made it positive not only for herself but also for her daughter. Lessons learned are never easy.
The pope can only remit sins or guilt by announcing that GOD has actually remitted the guilt. Luther saw as the major problem with the religious practices of his day the fact that Christians were buying pardons for their guilt and sins rather than seeking the penalties they deserved. He was afraid that the more pardons the Christians purchased the freer of penalty they would become and possibly commit more sins

Guilt and shame could cause suicidal thoughts in a person. When a person is bullied they may end up feeling shameful of their character. In society today many people take their own lives because they can’t handle the stress that they have. In Jocasta’s case she couldn’t handle finding out the truth that she had married her own son. “Servant: It is the fastest of words both to say and to learn: our divine queen, Jocasta is dead.
She becomes an example of an honest, hard-working member of society with her attitude, actions, and parenting. While Hester did commit a grave sin, adultery, with the town minister Arthur Dimmesdale, she takes on a different image as the novel progresses, and her attitude plays a major role in her reform. Instead of sulking or giving up, she decides to move on with her life, such as moving into a property on the edge of town and parenting Pearl in a positive manner. It is described how Hester contains a warm, rich nature tainted by the judgment of people and how they ostracize her because of her sin, “In such emergencies, Hester's nature showed itself warm and rich; a wellspring of human tenderness, unfailing to every real demand, and inexhaustible by the largest. There are many disadvantages of not having faith in our lives such as; disbelief makes us bitter, makes us not willing to trust people and in the Judeo-Christian ideals, God can not give us wisdom if we do not believe. Gimpel, even though his faith was tested, was not a bitter man. Although, he believed whatever story he was told, he was not an ignorant man. He was a man of integrity and belief, which were the foundations of his personality. With this in mind, Gimpel was not a bitter person.

Pearl was a sort of living symbol of her mother’s scarlet letter. She was the physical consequence of sexual sin. But even as a reminder of Hester’s sin, Pearl was more than a mere punishment to her mother: she was also a blessing. She represented not only “sin” but also the vital spirit and passion that engendered that sin. Hester gave her daughter the name Pearl because she got the baby with all she had, Pearl was her only treasure.
As the story progresses, Hester begins to see if she can begin to change her life for the better. She begins to realize that this sin that she carries with her doesn’t have to hold her back from progressing in life, but it is hard at first. “All the light and the graceful foliage of her character had been withered
