SUBJECT: PROTECTION AND ENHANCEMENT OF INDOOR AIR QUALITY
After a long discussion with the members of employee council and representatives from management, an office policy of smoke free workplace in our department will be accomplished. The department shall be entirely smoke free effective from March 1, 2011.
REASON OF EXECUTING THE POLICY:
This policy is implemented in regard to the complaints from customers about the smoky environment in our department office. In fact, some employees do smoke at department’s washroom and lunchroom. As our department is air-conditioned, the smell can be detected easily. This will affect the company’s impression.
OBJECTIVES AND TERMS:
The main objective of this stratagem is to protect and enhance our indoor air quality. Besides, contribute to the health and well-being of all employees. Here are the terms proposed in the policy:
* Smoking is prohibited in all of the enclosed areas within the department’s workplace, without exception. This includes common work areas, conference rooms, private offices, lunchrooms, stairs, restrooms, and all other enclosed facilities.
* The only designated smoking area is outdoors, on the far end of the building, within the fenced-in area. One may not smoke along any pathway leading to or from the designated smoking area.
* Employees may smoke in their personal vehicles, but the smoke and tobacco products must be completely contained within the vehicle. It is not acceptable that either smoking or non-smoking employees are subjected to smoke when they walk towards their vehicles.
* As these areas are made available to smokers, it is no way has any legal responsibility to do so. Employees who choose to use these smoking areas do so at their own risk. No additional breaks are allowed to any employee who smokes. Furthermore, smokers and users of tobacco products must dispose...
