short term review is not likely to be of much benefit.” Short term review and trying to each students content are, in essence, what coaching programs are doing. Again, students should prepare in the long run for entrance exams by taking harder classes in high school. Unfortunately, in the United States many students from low-income families are in schools where they are not encouraged to take rigorous academic courses or the courses are just not offered to the students. There is also a positive correlation between family income and test performance. (Depalma).
This benefits middle class pupils as all the troublesome students are removed from their school it means the teachers have more time for them to improve their grades thus making the school more popular because of their rank in the league tables then letting them cream-skim thus improving the school further. Consequently, this means the less successful schools have the less able, working class students putting them in a spiral of decline. Cream-skimming is when a higher achieving school selects higher ability pupils, who gain the best results and cost less to teach. This then means they have more money to pay for better equipment and more facilities for the students to achieve higher thus keeping up the standards of the school allowing the school to cream-skim the very best pupils making the school more popular because it has a better rank in the exam league tables. Exam league tables rank each school according to its exam performance but it makes no allowance for the level of ability of its pupils.
Children don’t listen to their school teachers as much as they listen to society. They learn more from watching television and celebrities. If society was serious about education, then the school year would be longer so that children could learn all-year-round and class sizes would be smaller so that teachers could engage with each student more. There is also a salary issue with education. American teachers don’t earn as much money as business professionals and teachers in other countries such as Japan, Canada, and Germany.
Students will be less focused in school, and less likely to continue their educations, if they dread going to school each day. Including art and music in he curriculum will motivate students, and will inspire them to enjoy school. It will also give them a creative outlet. Many young people have trouble expressing their emotions in words, but find that the can communicate their ideas through music and art. Giving students an opportunity to create every day will keep them engaged in learning, keep frustration at bay, and lead to happier, more fulfilled children.
Anne School. It allowed students to fix their educational gaps and it prevented them from falling back in their classes. It also instilled in the students a time management skill that would benefit them in the long run. Unfortunately, there are not many tutors and after school teachers to go around. Many students end up leaving without understanding their math homework or any type of homework.
I can also be easily distracted and being in a classroom with thirty of my peers, gave me the freedom to interact with my friends rather than focus on my work. Since in a regular school, there are so many students, teachers don’t care as much if you don’t turn in work or if you’re
Ultimately, Clark’s decisions to dismiss the drug dealers, drug users, and troublemakers and stick by his values prove to be ingenious. In relatively short order, the atmosphere in the school becomes conducive for learning. Clark’s school does not end up being taken over by the state government, because more than enough students pass the state-required exam. While I commend Clark for righting the sinking ship, I would not have gone about it in the same manner. My course of action would focus on getting the parents involved in the school.
While many people believe that University is the better choice, Community Colleges tend to have fewer students per class, which means closer relationships and more student/teacher interaction. Fewer student to teacher ratio means more one on one time with the student and teacher, which enhances student learning. It additionally means more recognition per student and individual teaching. At Universities there is much less one on one time. Classrooms and lecture halls are filled to capacity with hundreds of students per one teacher.
Students are not missing class to go scope out the opposite sex and to spend all day with them not attending any of their classes. Most students at Baldwin Wallace are either paying for their own college through their savings or loans, or their parents are paying for their college. For a student to miss class to be with the opposite sex would either be financially hurting themselves or their parents are most likely going to stop paying for the college if they aren’t attending their classes. The retention rate should have no affect on whether a campus is intermingled or not, it should have an affect on financial reasoning’s and a students study
“For Once, Blame The Student” The article “For once, blame the student” by Patrick Welsh expresses the idea that American students are falling behind academically not because of the common excuses themselves. I agree with the article and have seen through first-hand experience as a student that a large portion of American students have lost the internal motivation and determination needed to succeed academically, i.e. my 7th period. In “For once, blame the student” Welsh talks about the way students who have emigrated to the United States often do better in school than the middle and upper class American students. Welsh says the reasoning behind the emigrated student’s success is the self determination and motivation to do well in school, as well as hard work exerted by the students.
