He elaborates on the struggles America has had with putting down the beast of slavery. Furthermore, he explains, "ensuring that that same sort of beast never grows up when slaves are freed today is a challenge for the whole world" (Bales, 2005, p. 7). One of the key factors in the ignorance of modern-day slavery today is the dissociation of smuggling, trafficking, and prostitution. These are the
Do the math, that makes 58,406 wounded or killed in Afghanistan and Iraq since September 11, 2001 (Cable News Network, 2012). This makes an average of 5,310 per year. Not all casualties or injuries of war could be avoided by the use of unmanned drones (Predators), but some can. Predators can perform multiple missions at once while staying aloft for as long as 36 hours and are controlled by people a safe distance away. They are capable of performing intelligence missions of identifying chemical or biological agents used for weapons of mass destruction.
A war between the two immediately broke out. In 1964, the USA entered the Vietnam War. The inconclusive war in Vietnam cost many American and Vietnamese lives, devastated the country, and achieved nothing but misery for anyone caught up in it; including the Cambodians. Cambodia had become part of the Vietnam battlefield. During the next four years, American B-52 bombers, using napalm and cluster-bombs, killed up to 750,000 Cambodians in their effort to destroy North Vietnamese supply lines.
After selling their lies and plans for the war to the America people, congress had given President Bush carte blanche to bring justice to those who caused pain and destruction on American soil. Abu Ghraib Prison, also known as Baghdad Central Prison, became the U.S Army detention center for captured Iraqis. “For decades under Saddam Hussein, many prisoners who were taken to the Abu Ghraib prison never came out. It was the centerpiece of Saddam's empire of fear, and those prisoners who did make it out told nightmarish tales of torture beyond imagining – and executions without reason.” (Abuse of Iraqi POWS by GIs Probed, 2004) In 2004 rumors began to surface, regarding the abuse of prisoners held by the U.S army. Initially the U.S media expressed little interest to the accusations, until photographic evidence emerged, exposing the violation of the prisoner’s human rights.
How the Vietnam War started The Vietnam War was the longest and most unpopular war in the American history. It was also the only war that the U.S. lost. The whole war for Vietnam was for independence, but for the U.S. it was about stopping communism, and so the war itself started due to the two rival governments, the French occupation, and the interruption of foreign powers. A conflict was sparked by the two rival governments that were present in Vietnam. One government was led by a communist leader, Ho Chi Minh, who wanted to unite the country and help spread communism.
But Wikileaks was famous by the “ Collateral Murder”. In April 2010, An Apache gunship attacked and killed civilians and journalists in Baghdad in 12 July 2007. After that, more than seventy-six thousands documents called “Afghan War Diary”, which were not available for public, were published. After three yeas, The Iraq War Logs, which compiled about 400,000 documents, were released to the public review. In November 2010.
The attacks by Al Qaeda on September 11th were co-ordinated and calculated they hit the heart of capitalism and also the Pentagon another plane was ditched in a field in Pennsylvania which may have been heading for Washington D.C. almost three thousand people from many different countries were killed that day so the effects were felt world-wide. The response to this was the ongoing “War on Terror” with the deposition of the Taliban being the goal. Thirteen years later troops are still in Afghanistan and Iraq from both America and Britain although they are beginning to withdraw. Before the attacks of September 11th music had been used for protest there
Unfortunately the United States went wrong when they decided to take over advantage by bombing areas that they assumed(taught) were Vietnamese supply lines. So they were killing thousands of Cambodian people for areas they taught were places were Vietnam stored weapons and such. Of course this would cause a country to become hostile. Who wouldn’t? If your friends with two countries and one country decides to take risk of your people and their mistakes kill off your people that would definitely cause you to become just as hostile as Cambodia.
The biggest fear of all growing and developed countries in the 20th century was the spread of communism. Communism is like a disease that spreads and kills all successful economies in its path. For the United States, communism was at its greatest threat potential during the time period between the end of the Second World War in 1945 up until the Vietnam war in 1970. However, the United States was successful in denying the threat of communism dispersion within America. From 1945 at the Yalta Conference, up until the end of the Vietnam war in 1970, the initial goal of United States foreign policy was to deny the spread of communism.
The form of government known as republicanism invoked different ideas for the respective philosopher’s Hobbes and Machiavelli. While Machiavelli praises many republican notions, Hobbes dismisses them arguing a republic government is not ideal in his aim of preserving the people through the limitation of warfare. By contrast, Machiavelli implements many republican views on liberty and greatness. Still, Machiavelli’s perception of republicanism is redefined and defers in some ways particularly in preserving the common good. After assessing both attitudes towards the republic, I believe that Hobbes government was the most suitable because it is the most effective in the preservation of human life, which is essentially the purpose of a government.
