Have you ever wandered what happened to your high school sweetheart? Or maybe your first best friend in high school? Facebook is good for keeping in touch with old friends, but too much time on this site could cause problems and profiles can be creatively deceiving. Today I would like to inform you about the pros and cons of Facebook, but first lets take a look at what Facebook really is. In February 2004, a 19-year-old Harvard college student named Mark Zuckerberg founded Facebook. According to crunchbase.com, Facebook has more than 500 million users as of January of this year. Zuckerberg originally intended Facebook to be a college social network, but now anyone thirteen and older can join. In fact 11% of Facebook users are over the age of 35. There are many different things that Facebook users can do. Users may create a personal profile, view other users profiles, add other users as friends, and exchange messages. They may also play games, take quizzes, read daily horoscopes, and participate in surveys. Now that you know a little about what Facebook is, lets view some pros and cons of this social network. Facebook can have many different benefits. A major benefit is finding old friends. I have been to three different schools since Kindergarten and have kept in touch with a lot of friends through Facebook. Earlier this week my mom found a friend that she has been looking for for quite some time. This was a friend that my mom lost touch with since she graduated from high school. They had dinner just the other night and it is like they never lost contact. Facebook is also helpful in making new friends on campus. You can look up the school you go to and see people that also attend your school. I have gotten to know some classmates a lot more by reading their Facebook pages.
