! To start off this presentation id like to say that Arctic Sovereignty is a very boring subject. It has many debatable facts and quite honestly if the world wasnʼt so greedy could be solved super easily. With that said i bet a lot of you are asking what is Arctic Sovereignty? Basically its the debate of who owns the Arctic. ! The Arctic used to be a boring place with only polar bears and Santa Claus and no one except canada wanted it. Now, due to all the “global warming” as some like to call it many more countries are becoming interested. With less ice, big ships will now be able to travel through the Arctic instead of going around it when importing and exporting things to different countries. Not to mention the fact that the Arctic has oil, and apparently lots of it. ! Im sure some people are thinking to themselves, “if Canada already owns the Arctic then why is this a debate?” the debate is not whether the Arctic belongs to canada, the debate is that other countries feel they have the right to own it just as much as us and have the means to take it at their will. Before countries like the States, Russia, Denmark, Finland, Sweden, Norway and Iceland all decided they wanted a…show more content…
For some it may be for the oil, others its for the passage through. And maybe just maybe someone out there wants the Arctic to preserve it, so that when i have children and they have children a polar bear will not just be an image in a history book, but will still be freely roaming the earth in its natural
