1.1 Explain the importance of continually improving knowledge and practice Professional development is a hugely important aspect in any industry to ensure the success and effectiveness of a business. Managers must ensure they continue to update and refresh their knowledge through, for example; research, training, seminars, workshops etc. in order to ensure current working practices are meeting legislation such as employment laws, equal opportunities etc. and meeting standards such as the care council code of practice and national minimum standards and regulations as set out by CSIW. It is vital for management to be aware and up to date with relevant legislation and information, as it is a part of their role to guide, support and influence other staff to do well in their own roles.
I need to be aware of the most up to date legislations and guidelines, including the EYFS and welfare requirements. As a room leader it is within my role to ensure the staff within my room are also up to date with any changes and to guide and support them. Reflective practice is effective and a huge part of professional development. It enables me to look at my practice and see what we are doing well and the changes that need to be made. Improving my own knowledge and practice is valuable not just for myself but for my staff, my setting and the children within my care.
Learning new skills and refreshing training enables me to progress, and achieve within my career and working practices. Continually improving knowledge and practice can be named as professional development which is an essential component of organisational success. Professional development enables an organisation to keep up to date and to change proactively so that their service is relevant and appropriate. Planned development is listened to achieve specific outcomes that may be either focused on the needs of an individual and may contribute to the learning needs of an organisation. This implies that it is an on-going activity and needs to be thought about as something that is incremental with different elements contributing to a large whole.
People receiving care services must be confident that they can trust those who deliver care not only know what to do, but also to know how to do it well. It should be a sustained activity which, when embedded into the culture of an organisation, will increase staff morale as well as enhance the quality of their performance, which will result in positive outcomes for organisation and individuals. 2. Explain the importance of reflective practice in continuously improving the quality of service provided Reflective practice is important in order to ensure that high standards are always met.
