When baseball’s Babe Ruth was reportedly asked about earning a larger salary than the United States President Herbert Hoover during the Great Depression in the 1930’s Ruth defended his salary in response, “Why not? I had a better year than (Herbert Hoover) did.” Ruth earned $785,900 for 14 years in the MLB which hardly compares to New York Yankees’ Alex Rodriguez who will make $33,000,000 in one year, not including endorsements. Even the best Olympic athletes don’t make as much as these American sports athletes, such as Usain Bolt, who won gold in every event he participated in, yet makes substantially less than any of the American Athletes. Also, another problem caused by these
During that time, the team made money, now they traded him away and the attendance drastically dropped, and the team is unsuccessful. The second reason, and the more important reason, is that there are certain people who are the best in the world at what they do, and those people make a tremendous amount of money. The best software programmers in the world are inhumanly wealthy, the best doctors in the world are unquestionably millionaires, the best lawyers in the world make millions every year, the best actors, musicians, writers, and virtually everything else make outrageous amounts of money, so why should athletes be any different? If you've worked your whole life to succeed in something, while others have wavered over their goals, you probably deserve to reap the benefits of such dedication
Wouldn’t it be amazing to make millions of dollars by playing one game or tournament? Well famous athletes feel they do. Many people feel that professional athletes are extremely overpaid. People feel professional athletes are getting to much money in a society where incomes are traditionally based on the value of one's work. Average Americans work standard hours and get paid a dismal amount compared to an athlete.
In today’s society professional sports and professional athletes make tremendous amounts of money due to us citizens. The money we pay to watch professional sports all goes to the teams, the money we spend on food when were at the games go to the teams. Since pro athletes make such a huge amount of money from our support cheering them on, shouldn’t pro teams and pro athletes pay subsidy taxes for social needs? I believe that professional sports and pro athletes should pay an amount of taxes for social needs. Professional athletes make millions of dollars every year and it isn’t fair for those out on the streets that don’t make money close to a pro athlete.
21/11/13 Should footballers be paid more than soldiers? Ikrah Batool Is it really fair that footballers get paid so many millions more than a soldier does in a single year? Thousands of soldiers put their lives at risk for the safety of your country, slaving day in day out with minimal rest, sleeping in the horrendous heat and fighting in the freezing cold in the night. Whereas footballers just train for ninety minutes a day and then go home to their nicely warmed and cooled pad and rest. And this is what footballers get paid hundreds of thousands of pounds a week for!
While others will argue back because they believe they earned all of the money and could be that some are stubborn and hard headed. So lets get on with this debate and you tell me your own opinion on why they get too much money or they earn every penny they get. So to start this debate we will go over the pro’s of getting paid this much money and why they do. For instance some believe they are not over paid due to the risk of injuries that could put them out of the sport the rest of their life giving the reason why they get paid so much money. Also some will say they deserve the check due to all the work they put into it, because when the season is over they are still training and getting ready for the next season.
Those are the people with praiseworthy professions who deserve to get a higher pay. On the other hand, some people claim that it is fair for athletes to get that amount of money, but my question is why? Why should they get more money than people who fight every day to save lives, like firemen or policemen, or people who dedicate their entire lifetime giving to society, like teachers or doctors? All athletes do is box, run, jump, or kick a ball. Is that really so important to the point that they deserve suck a huge salary?
The London Olympic Games were a waste of money. The Olympic Games is a global occasion in which more than 200 countries and thousands of athletes participate and compete in a variety of competitions, each hoping to win a medal and enter the history books. Some people think that the Olympic Games is just a waste of money, providing that the money could be more useful elsewhere, such as in the health department. However, I disagree with such a view and believe that the Olympics Games is worth the money. Even though billions of dollars are spent by the country hosting this event, that money benefits the economy of the country and often doubles or triples in return.
However, this has threatened the true meaning of the game. It has given rise to scandals involving players and media portraying being a good athlete will get you by with anything. While some people take the position that commercialization corrupts sports I believe there are probably more positives than negatives regarding commercialization in sports, but the negatives that are present are still worth talking about. Ultimately the biggest downfall of commercialization in sports is the craziness of all the advertising that goes on through sports. For example, the Super bowl, companies pay millions of dollars to get their perfected thirty-second commercial on the screen of the millions watching and the next day the majority conversations are not even about the game but about which commercial was the best some people even admitting the commercials are the only reason they
Professional Athletes and Actors are Overpaid Studies show that half the world lives on less than 2.50 a day, and 22,00 children die each year due to poverty. However, actors and professional athletes are paid millions a year. Professional athletes and actors’ salaries have been in debate for many years. Some say actors and professional athletes don’t deserve the money they make, are overestimated, and are bad role models. On the other hand, some say they are highly skilled and deserve their money because of all their hard work.
