PRODUCTION CONTRAST WITH PEPSI & COKE ADS In the Pepsi commercial, we get to see a group of thirsty sumo in their respective sumo costume going up against a bunch of football legends, in hopes of winning the team’s a cooler filled with Pepsi . Also, in conjunction with FIFA World Cup 2002 that was held in Korea & Japan, it was a relevant homage to have sumo appeared in the commercial. If the sumo’s wasn’t a great interest to everyone, nevertheless, football junkies will get to see cameos from Roberto Carlos, Raul, Edgar Davis, Juan Sebastian, Emmanuel Petit, Rui Costa which led by famous football star David Beckham. In every scene, the player were seen sporting the Pepsi’s football jersey which wasn’t quite as appealing as I would have expected it to be given that in this commercial they’d lost to a group of sumo wrestler in a friendly match over a Pepsi. However, the wrestlers were much more engaging with their humorous football tackles and moves in attempt to maneuver around the professionals. During the whole 1 minute advertisement, everything was fast, fun and it kept the adrenaline going which held the audience attention. Nonetheless, I felt that it did not make a significant impact even with the star power of football legends, as to those giant size wrestlers stomping around the field had overshadowed the star power. Which made me confused and felt that are the Sumo’s the ones that are selling the brand or the famous footballers? Overall, it was very entertaining and the real winner was Pepsi itself. It shows that the American brand Pepsi is a universal product and is demanded everywhere regardless of culture differences. As for the Coke commercial, it was simple and encouraging. It did not have a cameo from any famous public figure, it had zero star power and no publicity, and honestly speaking it wasn’t needed at all. Coke commercial had a
