Plant biotech firm which is called ProdiGene has agreed to pay up to $3million to reimburse the federal government for the costs of dealing with an experimental genetically modified (GM) corn that contaminated corn intended for use. The U.S department of Agriculture says traces of the GM corn which was being tested for pharmaceutical production, accidentally contaminated soybeans in Nebraska. The Soyabeans were destroyed before they entered the market. The incident is the first of its kind involving GM crops that are being developed for pharmaceutical products including intermediates and proteins for new drug. USDA says ProdiGene failed to meet procedural requirements. The president and the CEO of ProdifGene stated that “we have learned some valuable lessons”. Due to the fact that ProdiGene has to pay up to $ 3 million to reimburse the federal government for the costs of dealing with an experimental genetically modified (GM) corn that contaminated corn intended for food use. I think many people will have a negative influence from this because of the contaminated corn. The U.S department of Agriculture found out that the GM corn which was being for pharmaceutical production, accidentally contaminated soybeans in Nebraska. People will loose trust in companies like this. There should not be any issue with big companies like this. They should never have any type of excuse like we did that by accident, or by mistake.
