Nowadays, there are so many options for people on how to get to their destination through different means of transportation such as cars, trains, ships, and airplanes. People whose destination is far away may prefer to travel by airplane because it would get them to their destination quicker and in a more convenient way. However, there are some rules that one must follow when dealing with the airlines. According to the article, “Southwest Calls Woman’s Clothing ‘Inappropriate’ She Disagrees,” by Huffington Post, a woman disagreed with Southwest Airlines, when an air hostess called her clothing “inappropriate” and requested that she should button up her shirt to cover her cleavage or else she wouldn’t be allowed to fly. Southwest Airlines should have allowed Avital, the woman, to fly no matter what she was wearing because everyone has the right to wear whatever they choose to, a dress shouldn’t affect the operation of the plane, and Avital paid for her flight. First of all, no one should have questioned Avital’s clothing because she has the right to dress however she chooses without anyone’s interference. Southwest Airline deals with thousands of customers every day. Nonetheless, the employers should know the basic law/s of the Constitution and Bill of Rights. Even though Southwest Airlines is a privately owned airline, they still don’t have the right to interfere with the federal law. The Constitution clearly states that one has the right to “freedom of expression.” The major aspects of this right are speech and dress, a non-verbal expression, according to the American Civil Liberties Union. One example that shows that the “freedom of expression” includes right to dress is when one loses their right to dress if arrested for a longer period of time.
