Five Step Problem Solving Heuristic * Lab 2.2 Delphine Tarver (#16963688) Ill – Defined Problems A.) Define an Ill-defined Problem in my life. 1. How to keep my Cat from soiling my carpets: When my son was five years old, he walked into the house followed by a kitten. He looked with imploring eyes, Momma can we keep it? After several accidents with this kitten, I realized I needed to teach her to use a litter box. I did all the normal punishments, telling her she was a bad girl, spanking her, rubbing her nose in it, everything, but only got minimal results. I was very frustrated, at this point in my life, I was tired having to constantly clean my carpets, behind her. I read some articles on the internet about potty training, and then I realized I was the problem, not my Cat. a.) Define the problem: The problem being that I was not paying enough attention to my Cat. To watch her for her tendencies, she would show when she was about to go potty, or if she was just frolicking around the house. b.) Generate solution: Once I realized I was the problem, my solution was to pay more attention to her on a regular basis. Was she actually going potty, or was she just playing around? c.) Create course of action: I determined that over the next four weeks, instead of just letting her wander around. My son and I need to pay attention to whether she was going potty, or just playing around. If I observed her showing tendencies of going potty, quickly put in her litter box, if she developed habits of going to the litter box on her own, then give positive praise and a treat. d.) Implement the solution: Over the next four weeks I implemented my plan. e.) Evaluate the solution: At the end of the four week period following my five step process, I realized my cat was having no more accidents. Also because of
