Introduction : Dirty hands issue involves not only a moral dilemma in politics as it can be experienced privately by an individual. According to Laurie Calhoun (2004) pp364, Dirty hands result in a situation where a person or a leader faces a dilemma which requires him/her to compromise his/her moral principles what may seem will result in a good outcome for him/herself or the community as a whole. The paper will present a case study on the disbanding of the directorate of special operations (DSO) otherwise known as Scorpions which is an example of a dirty hands situation in the post Apartheid South Africa. The paper will start by defining dirty hands issue secondly present a background on the DSO and will further present a justification of why the disbandment of the DSO is a dirty hands issue.
